In ancient times, houses were made of mud. Ants used to enter the house when some food particle used to be strewn around by mistake. To avoid this, the women of the house used to draw lines of rice powder outside the house so that the ants do not come in, instead busy themselves with the rice powder outside.

This gradually took shape of a tradition and people started using it for functions and celebrations. The symmetry in the Rangoli depicts the organised manner of our life and the vivid colours in them show the vibrance we should have in our life.
